WHAT’S ON: THE BRITISH & IRISH LIONS COMING TO BRISBANE IS A BIG DEAL

The arrival of the British & Irish Lions in Brisbane is more than just another rugby tour—it’s a rare, electrifying event that captures the imagination of sports fans across Australia and the world.

The Lions only tour Australia every 12 years, making each visit a once-in-a-generation experience. This team is unique, bringing together the best rugby union players from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The “super team” only exists for these special tours, creating a level of anticipation and excitement that’s hard to match.

When the Lions come to town, they bring thousands of passionate fans with them. Brisbane transforms into a sea of red jerseys, with pubs, hotels, and streets buzzing for days. The atmosphere is electric, turning the city into a rugby festival that goes far beyond the stadium. The matches themselves are fiercely contested and historic.

The Lions play a series of games against Australian Super Rugby teams, invitational sides, and, most importantly, a three-Test series against the Wallabies. For many players, facing the Lions on home soil is a once-in-a-career opportunity.

The tour brings a massive boost to the local economy, with fans filling hotels, restaurants, and bars. The games are broadcast globally, putting Brisbane in the international spotlight and showcasing the city to millions of viewers.

For the 2025 tour, Brisbane will host two major matches:

Queensland Reds vs. British & Irish Lions on Wednesday, July 2, 2025

Wallabies vs. British & Irish Lions (First Test) on Saturday, July 19, 2025

Both games will be played at Suncorp Stadium, with kick-off at 7:45pm AEST.

The Lions will play the Queensland Reds on Wednesday night at Suncorp.

These matches are part of a nine-game tour, culminating in a three-Test series against the Wallabies. The full tour schedule and more details can be found on Rugby.com.au or at Suncorpstadium.com

Whether you’re a die-hard rugby fan or just want to soak up the atmosphere, the British & Irish Lions tour is an unmissable event for Brisbane. The city will be buzzing, the rugby will be world-class, and the memories will last a lifetime.
