Debate has sparked once again over the name of the Brisbane CBD’s train station, Central.
A major shake up to the river city’s rail network is in the works due to the Cross River Rail project and rail advocates are calling for Central Station to be renamed as part of the process.
Rail Back on Track’s Robert Dow says it’s appropriate for Central Station to be renamed Anzac Square Station, due to its close proximity to the war memorial. He would also like to see Roma Street Station renamed as Roma Street Central.
Several services will no longer run through Central Station when Cross River Rail opens. The existing Gold Coast, Beenleigh, Caboolture and Redcliffe Peninsula lines will instead stop at the new Albert Street Station in the CBD.

A number of train stations across Queensland have had name changes in the past.
Roma Street was originally Brisbane Terminal station 1875, changed to Roma Street 1889 when line to Central opened.
Fortitude Valley was originally Brunswick Street 1890, renamed Fortitude Valley 2008 following the major upgrade.
South Bank was originally Vulture Street 1893, renamed South Bank 2001.
North Boondall was originally Cabbage Tree Creek 1882, renamed Nudgee College 1911, renamed Boondall 1923, North Boondall upon opening of the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in 1986.
What do you think Central Station should be called?

I think it should be changed to either Brisbane, Brisbane City or BrisVegas Station
