YOUR LAST MINUTE GUIDE: WHERE TO WATCH ORIGIN

A big game tonight in Brisbane as the state’s biggest rivalry fires up for Game 1 of State of Origin.

If you can’t make it to the stadium and want to save yourself the chaos of Caxton Street while still enjoying plenty of company, good food and flowing beverages. Here’s some of Brisbane’s favourite spots:

  • Osborne Hotel. If you have a thirst to be quenched, you’ll be pleased by the wall of beer taps behind the bar. Just remember to drink responsibly! The menu has a large selection of shareables and trusty pub fare including wagyu burgers and sirloin steaks. The game itself will be projected on a big screen so you won’t be clamouring for a good view. If you still can, it’s best to book a table.
  • Pig N Whistle, Riverside. City workers and visitors alike will be well familiar with the Pig N Whistle’s wide offering of big screens, so you’re well likely to catch a good view no matter where you’re sitting. If you find Riverside to be full, you can also try the Valley.
  • The Pineapple Hotel. Never mind the big neighbour a few blocks down, this place is known for the next best atmosphere outside of Lang Park. It’s been a well-respected sports pub for over 30 years with over 10 TV screens.
  • Alfie’s Bar at Bronco’s Leagues Club, Ashgrove. No booking required, but you must become a member. Only $10 for 3 years, which you’ll soon make back through savings on food and drinks. They’ve got a central big screen with plenty of TVs around the place. This year, they’re giving away a 2024 Origin jersey and tickets to the next Broncos home game, and you can score entries by simply purchasing food and drink at the bar.
