WHAT’S ON: ORIGIN AND MAGIC ROUND HITS BRISBANE

Footy fever will hit Brisbane next week when the 2025 Ampol Women’s State of Origin series kicks off at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday 1 May, leading into the NRL’s Magic Round.

Magic Round is rugby league’s ultimate footy festival, where all 16 NRL teams descend on Brisbane for one action-packed weekend of back-to-back games at Suncorp Stadium. Kicking off this year’s festivities, the Women’s State of Origin opener is the perfect prelude—a showcase of speed, skill, and state pride that sets the bar high for the matches to come. With thousands of fans flocking to Brisbane for Magic Round, the energy around the Origin clash is set to be electric.

Queensland will begin their quest for a third consecutive series victory on home turf, hoping to ride a wave of support from the maroon faithful.

Full 2025 Women’s State of Origin Schedule

Game I: Thursday, 1 May – Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

Game II: Thursday, 15 May – Allianz Stadium, Sydney

Game III: Thursday, 29 May – McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle

The Queensland Maroons have named their squad for Game I of this year’s Women’s State of Origin series.

This is just the second year the Women’s State of Origin has been played as a three-match series, reflecting the rapid rise and popularity of the women’s game.

Ticket holders can travel free on all regular Brisbane City Council buses and Queensland Rail City Network trains (excluding ferries and Airtrain services). Tickets are available through Ticketek.
