It’s not just the Olympics we’re taking from Paris, Brisbane has been officially recognised as one of the world’s most romantic cities in the world. The ranking comes from a new analysis by UK lifestyle brand Pour Moi.
Coming in at number six on the global list, Brisbane beat out some heavyweights in the love stakes, including the City of Love itself (Paris came in at a modest ninth place). Pour Moi’s “Romantic Cities” report looked at over 550 destinations worldwide, scoring each on romantic attractions, couple-friendly activities, date night potential, and—yes—even how often people tag #datenight on Instagram.
Brisbane clocked in with a Romantic Score of 42.93, sitting just behind Rome and ahead of Las Vegas and Dubai. Joining us in the top 10 were fellow Aussie lovebirds Melbourne (10th place) and global cities like London (1st), New York City (2nd), and Miami (3rd). But while those cities may have glittering skylines or Hollywood sparkle, Brisbane wins hearts with warm nights, jacaranda blooms, and low-key magic.
So what makes Brisbane so dreamy? Maybe it’s the fairy-lit walkways along the river, the breezy rooftop bars, or the fact you can picnic under the stars at New Farm Park. Romance, Brisbane-style, is all about relaxed charm, good weather, and the occasional paddleboat or CityCat cruise.
Looking for real date night inspiration? Try a twilight stroll along the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, where you can watch the sun set over the city skyline. Grab a bite from Howard Smith Wharves, then head to Mr Percival’s for cocktails with a view. For something a little quirky, book a vintage cinema night at The Elizabeth Picture Theatre, or escape into the rainforest trails of Mt Coo-tha Botanic Gardens.
And let’s not forget South Bank—whether you’re paddling in the lagoon, catching a free movie at River Quay Green, or sharing a churro at the markets, it’s Brisbane’s date night HQ for good reason.
The best part about Brisbane is some of the hidden secrets across the suburbs. What’s your go-to date night spot?
