WHAT’S ON: MAJOR EVENTS HIT BRISBANE

Brisbane residents are gearing up for a mega weekend across the river city, with a stack of events on the cards for the whole family.

Ekka!

It’s all about strawberry sundaes, fireworks, farm animals and showbags when the Ekka kicks off from Saturday 10 August at the RNA Showgrounds.

Almost 380 different types of show bags will be up for grabs, with 77 new bags on offer in 2024 and prices still starting at $2 each (then ranging much, much higher in some instances).

This year, organisers are trying to look after the hip pocket of locals by offering a new Ekka Tuckshop, with food offerings $5 and under.

For the evening Ekka Nites lineup’s return, live performances will shine when the sun goes down. As well as lighting up the heavens with fireworks and drones, expect everything from galloping horses and stunt performers to country karaoke.

For tickets and more details, head to the Ekka website.

The Olympic buzz is continuing across Brisbane as residents start to imagine what we can expect as a host city in 2032.
