September school holidays have arrived and it’s the perfect time to get out and take advantage of the sunny spring weather in Brisbane.
Alongside Brisbane’s usual offerings like Southbank’s Streets Beach, Wynnum’s Wading Pool, Sandgate Waterfront, Mount Cootha, Roma Street Parklands and the Botanic Gardens, there’s a number of events taking place for the whole family to enjoy.

For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Whilst the view has changed significantly over the last 90 years, the time-honoured tradition of “taking a trip up the tower” happily continues at Museum of Brisbane.
The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. See if you can catch a glimpse of the bells!
Lightscape Brisbane is a world-class light, colour and sound experience in Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens until 12 October – a must for the school holidays!
Back by popular demand and following the huge success of last year’s Nieergoo: Spirit of the Whale, the three-dimensional multicolour drone show returns for another glittering spectacular on 19-21 September.
Head to Festival Garden in South Bank or at Queen’s Wharf as 400 drones dazzle over Brisbane’s iconic skyline with a spectacular storytelling of The Rainbow Serpent. This First Nations creation story for Brisbane River as told by Traditional Owner and Tribal Experiences Managing Director Shannon Ruska, brought to life through a carefully choreographed drone performance, with original sound composition by Guy Webster.
Spooky Putt Putt at Victoria Park
Tee off amidst the creepy clowns of Carn-evil, then venture into the otherworldly fun of Alien Invasion. As you navigate the VP Graveyard, stay vigilant—the friendly zombies might just reach out for a ghastly handshake!
Visit the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre. Enjoy the environmental and historical displays, discover facts about wetland flora and fauna, and learn about the importance of preserving tidal wetlands.

It’s hard to list them all, but it’s also worth checking out your local library, museum, shopping centre and Council websites for more school holiday inspo. Don’t forget Brisbane is the perfect starting point for a day trip also. Think beaches on the Sunshine Coast, theme parks on the Gold Coast or even strawberry picking and mountain hikes.
