VOTE FOR BRISBANE’S BEST TRAFFIC BOX ART

Is there a bright traffic signal box in your suburb that makes you smile? Voting’s open now for the Artforce Awards 2024 People’s Choice Category.

Artforce Brisbane is an initiative of Brisbane City Council aiming to bring the colourful stories of Brisbane communities to the streets, one intersection at a time.

The People’s Choice Award is open to public voting while other awards include the Lord Mayors Award, Overall winner, Best Energex Box, Best 12 and under, Highly Commended 12 and under, Best 18 and Under, Best Primary School & Early Childhood Centre, Best High School and Best Organisation.

Some of the 2024 People’s Choice Entries

Gone are the days of the plain blue traffic signal boxes. Community members and local artists now have the opportunity to nominate to paint their original artworks on the structures.

Artforce Brisbane was first introduced by former Lord Mayor, Jim Soorley in 1991 as a way to combat unwanted graffiti and vandalism across the city. Since then, more than 5000 volunteers have painted 1200 boxes.

The 2023 Overall Winner went to “Our Ekka” by Tara Hooppell.

Each year, there’s around 80 new painting opportunities across the city as old cabinets are replaced via intersection upgrades. To register to paint a traffic signal box, visit the Artforce Brisbane Website.

The awards are held to celebrate fresh contributions every 12 months.
