Brisbane’s amazing parks are a great way for kids to exercise, socialise and be in the great outdoors.
Parents might expect their kids to get some bumps and bruises as a normal part of growing up, but sadly there are bigger dangers in our parks and playgrounds.
Leader of the Opposition in Brisbane City Council, Jared Cassidy has discovered a list of damaged and dangerous park equipment that have been entirely neglected by the Schrinner administration.
“Right across Brisbane, there are 589 instances of broken or faulty park equipment at 363 individual parks.”
“In this year’s budget, the Schrinner administration has only funded maintenance in 12 suburban parks and is only replacing 8 playgrounds” Councillor Cassidy explained.

Labor in Council is arguing that too much focus has been put on multi-million dollar inner-city park projects, like the $141 million Victoria Park and the new $10 million Bradbury Park project, while small local and suburban parks are being neglected.
Councillor Cassidy is fearful that while these damaged and dangerous playgrounds are on a list to be repaired, there is no real way of knowing how many more parks need to be fixed as well.
“Council expects residents to report broken equipment so these parks on this list are only there because the community have raised them as needing repair.”
“Who knows how many parks and playgrounds that have broken and dangerous equipment, are unsafe and unclean there are across the city.”
“Labor in Council would get back to the basics of delivering in the suburbs and keeping kids safe in our parks and playgrounds.”
