Brisbane Labor have revealed plans to upgrade the intersection at Western Avenue and Hamilton Road in Chermside, following years of calls from the community.

This intersection is located near the entrance of the Prince Charles Hospital and has become a notorious spot for traffic issues, regular incidents, and sadly the death of a local healthcare worker.

The site was marked with tragedy in 2018 when a nurse was struck by a car when walking and died.

After that fatal accident, more than 726 staff at Prince Charles Hospital were surveyed on road safety, of which 722 said the intersection needed to be upgraded.

Labor Opposition Leader Jared Cassidy has a list of intersections he would look to improve if Labor take office this year.

Brisbane Labor, led by Lord Mayoral Candidate Tracey Price, has committed to work with the Queensland Government and Prince Charles Hospital administration to roll out their design concept to improve safety at the blackspot.

The announcement is part of the Opposition’s broader transport plan to bust congestion and increase safety at local intersections.

Labor will focus the infrastructure budget on suburban intersection upgrades and congesting busting projects, with more than $1billion set to be invested in roadinfrastructure over the next 12 months.

They’ve also revealed plans to establish a Suburban Congestion Taskforce to advise Council in their first 100 days with a mandate to identify safety and congestion issues to address.
