For two years in a row now Brisbane has missed out on the EKKA thanks to COVID-19.

The closest anyone could get to the action was a strawberry sundae or showbag delivered to your door.

But this October a “Mini EKKA” is coming to the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds.

Weekend Bites is putting on a boutique family carnival that will run in the afternoons and evenings of Friday 8 October, Saturday 9 October and Sunday 10 October.

There’ll be dodgem cars, a Ferris wheel, spinning tea cups and bungy trampolines.

Event Organiser Jade Evans normally runs numerous exhibitions at the Brisbane EKKA but with the major event being cancelled her team has been left with semi trailer loads of Showbags, toys and fairy floss.

To make sure none of that cheer goes to waste, they are touring Queensland and putting on pop-up carnivals.

“With the cancellation of events all our small mum and dad businesses have created Weekend Bites for a pop up fair with all the show favourites like Dagwood dogs, laughing clowns and bumper cars,” Jade Evans said.

“Featuring Australia’s largest tea cup ride, worlds largest fairy floss and the worlds largest Dagwood dog 2 FOOT LONG! Also Showbags with Bertie beetle Showbags!”

There’ll also be food trucks galore with all of your favourite festive treats on offer.
