Like the name suggests Hairdressers with Hearts is exactly that, an organisation combining cutting hair with empathy and support for victims of domestic and family violence.
According to their website the organisation ‘started with a conversation between Sonia Colvin, the Founder of Hairdressers with Hearts, who is a hairdresser, and a DV worker under the window of a safe room at Caboolture courthouse’.
The organisation trains hairdressers and barbers to recognise signs of domestic violence or elder and financial abuse in their clients and then link them with professional help and services.
Sonia has already helped over 200 victims and now she wants other hairdressers and barbers to get involved.
Ms Colvin launched her not-for-profit with great success, already receiving support from local governments.
Hairdressers with Hearts aim is:
‘to provide every Australian hairdresser and barber with the Hairdressers with Hearts/”No More Silence” training so they are empowered to help clients, by providing appropriate resources. By doing this we will reach the most vulnerable in our communities who have no idea of where to turn.’
