Vaisakhi Mela is one of the most important days in the Sikh calendar.

It’s a day of rich cultural displays and delights, with traditional dancing, music and food on offer.

This year the Vaisakhi Mela will be held at Curlew Park in Sandgate on the 11th of April.

A citizenship ceremony will also be part of this year’s program.

There will be rides, games and fireworks too.

The best part – the event is open and free for anyone to enjoy.

“It (Viasahki Mela) has been celebrated by Punjabi people since the 1600s,”

“It marks the establishment of the Panth Khalsa, the Order of Pure Ones by the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh,”

“Vaisakhi is also celebrated as harvest festival and start of the New Year by Punjabis.”
