COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: MITCHELTON ROTARY’S IWD EVENT WITH IMPACT

Words from Mitchelton Rotary:

Mitchelton Rotary Club is hosting an International Women’s Day event on Saturday 7th March 2026, 5PM to 7:30PM, as part of the Rotary campaign to say, “Yes to Respectful Relationships” and “No to Domestic Violence.”

We are facilitating a free evening seminar, open to the public with guest speakers presenting options and supporting services for those experiencing domestic violence.

Young people aged 15-17 years are welcome to attend with parental consent.

Guest speakers include:

Ria Wong (or her representative) from Brisbane Domestic Violence Service Team, Micah Projects.

Ria and her Team are committed to making a direct and genuine impact on ending Domestic Violence against women at an individual and system level. Ria is also an acting key leader with Michah Projects.

Jo Neary, Zephyr Education Inc

Jo worked for Education Queensland for nearly 40 years in both rural and city schools. During that time, she was -a classroom teacher, a mentor to young graduate teachers, Deputy Principal and Principal. Jo was inspired by the founders of Zephyr Education Inc to help children like nothing in a way Jo had seen beforehand.

Helen Baxter, MN (Child & Family Health), Love Bites

Helen has over 20 years’ experience working directly with young people in school-based youth health settings focusing on adolescent wellbeing.

Helen trained with Love Bites about 15 years ago following Love Bites service identifying an increase in the impact on young people of unhealthy relationships at home.

The Love Bites programme introduced into Secondary Schools assists young adults with their understanding of their own emotional development and the importance of Self Respect and Respect for others.

DV Awareness resources will be available on the day including information from Mercy Community and the Rotary South Pacific DFV Toolkit.

100% of Rotary fundraising at the event will benefit Zephyr Education Inc. an organisation supporting families with new school uniforms, new schoolbooks, new

lunch boxes, new school bags, clothing and footwear.

We look forward to welcoming you to this public Rotary event. For further details please contact Ian Cameron on 0434 079 035 or via our email to mitcheltonrotary@gmail.com with the RSVP date being Friday 27th February 2026.
