TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON THEIR WAY FOR BUSY BALMORAL INTERSECTION

Good news for Balmoral residents, Morningside Ward Councillor, Lucy Collier has announced traffic lights will be installed at Lytton Road and Taylor Street from next week.

The busy intersection will be under construction for a few months, bringing temporary impacts to the local community.

Construction begins at the Balmoral intersection next week
(early May).

The project will deliver a range of improvements including a new eastbound dedicated left-turn lane, upgraded underground infrastructure, new traffic signals, improved road lighting, and freshly poured concrete paths and driveways.

Traffic management measures will be introduced and maintained throughout the area to support safe construction activity. This will involve reduced speed limits and other traffic adjustments around the work zone. Service investigations will also be carried out on the verges along both Lytton Road and Taylor Street, covering the northern and southern sides of the intersection. In addition, demolition works will be undertaken to remove existing pathways, pram ramps, and driveways in preparation for upgrades.

Construction activity is expected to cause changed traffic conditions, with slower travel times likely due to lane closures and detours. Pedestrian routes will also be managed using signage and traffic control, and residents are urged to follow directions to ensure safety around the work areas. As demolition progresses, there will be additional noise and vibration, particularly during daytime hours when most construction is scheduled.

Some night works will also occur in May and June to accommodate certain infrastructure upgrades, with notifications to be provided in advance.
