When the staff at HealthSave Norman Park Chemist heard about the Lord Mayor refusing to give bus drivers face masks, they refused to sit back and let it happen.

Without hesitation they contacted local Councillor Kara Cook, wanting to donate 3,000 masks for Brisbane bus drivers and anyone else in the community who needs ones but can’t afford or access them.

Owner of the Pharmacy, Jenny Nguyen, thanked Cr Cook for bringing the issue to her attention.

“We just wanted to help in any way we could,” Ms Nguyen said.

“We really hope these masks go exactly where they are needed.”

And they are – the Rail Tram and Bus Union picked up 1,000 of the masks for bus drivers.

Micah Projects Wellspring Hub in Hawthorne also collected 500 masks for its clients.

Councillor Kara Cook says she’s blown away by the community spirit and response.

“This is what I absolutely love about our local community,” Cr Cook said.

“Our wonderful local businesses are supporting our community and at this time it’s really important to support them as well.”
