After a decade of local advocacy, the Federal Albanese Labor Government has made a multi-million-dollar investment to fast-track works on signalling a problematic intersection in Inala.
Despite the intersection consisting of Council roads, Brisbane City Council has proposed three designs but have stopped short of any construction works over the past ten years.
During that time, multiple crashes and fatalities have occurred.

Shayne Neumann MP, Chair of the Federal Black Spot Funding Committee announced on Sunday that the federal government will be pushing the project along with a substantial investment.
“22,000 vehicles a day go through the intersection, and it’s one of the most dangerous black spots on all of Queensland.”
“The Albanese Labor Government is delivering $3 million to fix up this intersection, and another $667,000 down the road at Azalea Street.”
“Thank you Margie Nightingale, Member for Inala and Charles Strunk, the local councillor [for Forest Lake Ward] for their advocacy and the local community.”
Brisbane Labor Councillor for Forest Lake Ward Charles Strunk has long advocated for a fix to the intersection since his first campaign for election in 2016.
Last year, State MP for Inala Margie Nightingale organised a rally of Inala locals outside of City Hall and hand delivered a petition with more than 1500 signatures to the Lord Mayor’s office.
Recently, about 8000 residents in the area received a flyer from Brisbane City Council featuring a proposed design, the third design in ten years.
Current LNP Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner had promised to fund the intersection fix as part of his 2024 election campaign.
The latest timeline from BCC suggests the project could be completed by late 2027, just months before the 2028 local government elections. Schrinner has stated he wishes to run for Lord Mayor again in 2028.
