BULIMBA LIBRARY UPGRADE WORKS ANNOUNCED

Councillor for Morningside Ward Lucy Collier has announced that works on the Bulimba library upgrade will begin from July this year.

Works will begin after the completion of a tender process.

While Cr. Collier hasn’t been provided with much detail from Council yet, the library will have to temporarily close for up to nine months.

A temporary, pop-up library location will be available at the Bulimba Bowls Club, 6 Quinn Street, Balmoral while works are undertaken.

It’s the latest stage in a years-long effort from Cr. Collier, who has long campaigned on the issue and requested funds in multiple budget submissions over recent years.

Funds were finally secured in last year’s Council budget, with a community consultation period on the library’s design, amenities and services undertaken last month.

Council’s cuts to the First Five Forever sessions in 2024 caused uproar for parents who frequent the Bulimba Library, and Cr. Collier has called for reinstating the sessions in this year’s budget submission to the LNP Lord Mayor and City Treasurer, Adrian Schrinner.

The Lord Mayor is currently in the United States attending a leadership course.
