Residents have sparked renewed calls for King George Square to return to its former green glory.

A petition has been launched on the Brisbane City Council website and it’s gaining traction.

“Residents draw to the attention of bringing back fountains and grass to King George Square,” the petition reads.

“Returning the square to it’s former glory where it was a place for the people.”

“Your petitioners therefore request that grassy areas and fountains be incorporated into a newly designed Square that reflects as it was when it had grassy areas and fountains.”

The grass was ripped up and fountains taken out in 2009 by then LNP Mayor Campbell Newman.

Not everyone was a fan of the new fully cement design and that dislike clearly hasn’t subsided.
