December 30, 2025 marked six months since Brisbane’s LNP City Council rolled out changes to Brisbane’s Bus Network after the election of the LNP state government left Council with less funding from Translink.
BCC’s Brisbane Labor Opposition subsequently surveyed commuters in the following months asking if the changes improved or deteriorated their experience on Brisbane’s bus network. Council Opposition Leader Jared Cassidy stood with more than 10 aggrieved commuters on Brisbane’s Southside to announce the results.
Overall, respondents gave an average of 25 out of 100, with almost 70% of commuters saying their commute is longer and over 90% say they are unhappy with the changes.
Other key issues raised through qualitative feedback include increased travel time, removal of bus stops, increased walking distance and confusing two-seat journeys.
Councillor Cassidy claimed that Adrian Schrinner had sold the people of Brisbane “a dud”.
“The Metro buses only replaced routes that already existed and suburban routes were cut to fund their operation. This is robbing Peter to pay Paul.”
“Two decades of decline under Brisbane’s LNP Council have brought us to a point where there are less bus stops, less buses and less bus routes on the network. Brisbane is stuck under Schrinner.”
Beverley Morgan had lead a group of over ten friends and neighbours to join Councillor Cassidy on the day, slamming the Schrinner-led LNP Council for taking bus stops out of service, forcing some to walk up to 1 kilometer to the nearest bus stop.
“We’ve gone backwards with this Mayor. All the time.”
“We’re ratepayers – why don’t we get the same consideration, and what is he going to do next? Who’s next?”
Council had originally tried to claim that their bus network changes had led to a boost in bus patronage. However, the timeline they had provided included the introduction of 50 cent fares by the former Labor state government, blurring the lines over which initiative was really responsible for the increase in passenger numbers.
After changes to Brisbane’s bus network, most Brisbane residents still live more than 400 meters away from a bus stop.
An additional review into Northside bus services will commence from early 2026.
