They can pop your tyre and ruin your day, all within seconds.
They are also a serious safety hazard.
Potholes are nobody’s friend and they’ve been popping up all across the river city.
From the beginning of November 2021 to the end of January 2022 Brisbane City Council recorded 2,422 complaints for potholes.
The ten suburbs with the most complaints are as follows:
- Indooroopilly – 49
- Carindale – 48
- Murarrie – 43
- Eight Mile Plains – 43
- Tingalpa – 42
- Sunnybank Hills – 40
- Toowong – 40
- Camp Hill – 39
- Bracken Ridge – 35
- Wynnum West – 35
Council Opposition Leader Jared Cassidy said the high number of complaints is due to a lack of funding for basic council services.
“The LNP Mayor can find hundreds of millions of dollars to fast track inner city projects, but fails to prioritise the most basic of council services and maintenance that impact residents’ daily lives,” Cr Cassidy said.
“Residents are paying more and more in rates but getting less and less in return in their suburbs under the LNP Administration.
“This Council should have a permanent in-house pothole repair and road resurfacing team surveying the streets and spotting defects to fix.
“Instead, under the LNP, Council puts the onus on residents to report potholes and then contracts that basic work out to labour-hire companies, which not only costs residents more but it takes longer for the works to get done.
“It also promotes unstable employment and less rights for those labour-hire workers, instead of giving them secure in-house Council jobs.”
